Week Ending 14/07/23

Date: 12th Jul 2023 @ 8:45pm

Happy Friday! We don’t have many days left so have been enjoying lots of special end of year moments such as meet the teacher and rehearsals for the End of Year show. We are so proud of how well the children have been coming in the main gates in the morning this week! They were also fantastic for the class swaps on Tuesday and made a great start to Key Stage 1. It’s my (Miss Nic) final blog of the school year and final one in Reception for a while. Thank you for all your support this year, I have had a wonderful year teaching this special group of children and cannot wait to see them continue to shine as they move into Year 1.

Dates for the diary this half term:

Monday 17th July – End of Year Show at the Baptist Methodist Church. If you are available to help either class walk down then let the class teacher know please.

Hedgehogs – 9:15am            Dormice – 10:00am (or as close to as possible)

Thursday 20th July – PTA BBQ (Come and join us on the playground after school for our annual BBQ to celebrate your child's wonderful first year of school!)

Housekeeping

Next week we will be slowly getting ready for the summer holidays. We will be sending home lots of little bits for the children to keep for example, their writing portfolios from the year. These will be lovely memories to keep and share together as they grow. Please can you hand a labelled plastic bag to your child’s class teacher to help your child bring home their things, thank you.

It is also the time for us to close your child’s Tapestry account as this is something we only use in EYFS in our school. In order to keep a copy of the photos, videos and observations then you need to download them onto your computer or a memory stick. As always, please do not share pictures and videos on social media if other children are included, thank you.  Here are the guides to help:

Downloading Journal to PDF - Tapestry tutorials - The Foundation Stage Forum Ltd (eyfs.info)

Exporting media from observations - Tapestry tutorials - The Foundation Stage Forum Ltd (eyfs.info)

You will be able to do this from Monday 17th July until Thursday 31st August. If you would like us to do it for you, then please drop off a labelled USB stick. Your child’s account will be archived after Thursday 31st August and you will no longer have access to it.

Talking Point

This week the children spent the afternoon with their new teachers; Mrs Harrison and Miss Jones. They came back absolutely full of beans and more than ready for their new challenge. For the talking point this week, take the opportunity to reflect on the year with your child. What have been the highlights? What are they proud of? Support them to set a simple target for Year 1, remind them they can achieve anything if they set their minds to it!

Little Wandle (Phonics)

This week we have had been revising everything we have learnt this half term while completing the assessments. Please look out in your child's reading record for the results and next steps. We have passed all this information up to year 1 so their reading journey will continue smoothly. This is the last week that we will be sending reading books home, PLEASE ENSURE ALL BOOKS ARE RETURNED BY 19TH JULY, or you will be charged.

As you know, Little Wandle was new in January. We would really appreciate as many people as possible filling in a very quick survey about phonics and reading, thank you: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/Q27TFZQ

In Maths, we have been revising our knowledge of 2D and 3D shapes. This is a topic that the children really enjoy doing but can be tricky as there is so much new vocabulary involved. We solved problems with shape by drawing shape flowers and making a tower out of 3D shapes for Rapunzel.

On Monday, we had a letter from the Smeds and Smoos! We were challenged to make a flower for Jill using 2D shapes and made some beautiful pictures.

On Tuesday, we enjoyed a brilliant afternoon with our new teachers. The children found out where to line up, had a good chance to play and even visited their new toilets. They came back so excited that we weren't sure they wanted to be back in Reception!

On Wednesday, we enjoyed finishing our story of 'The Sea Saw'. I wonder if your child can tell you the twist at the end? Our first chick hatched today and we enjoyed watching more come along over the day. We can't wait to hold them next week.

On Thursday, we walked down to the Baptist church with our Year 6 buddies to perform our End of Year show for them. It was our first time on the stage in the church so there was a lot to practice. We then had a quiet afternoon in the classroom.

On Friday, we enjoyed celebration worship in the morning and then had a tennis celebration in the afternoon! Our Wimbledon afternoon was rained offf, we don't have the option to put the roof across here! We ate strawberries and cream and watched some Wimbledon. I wonder who will win this weekend? Hopefully we will get our chance to play next week.

Congratulations to our Stars of the Week, Cole and Seb.

Please be aware that celebration assembly is now 9:30am!

Our final mystery readers were Grace’s Mum and Zachary’s Mum. Thank you for coming to share your story with us!

Thank you to all our mystery readers from the year. The children have absolutely loved this part of each week and you have been a part of inspiring their lifelong love of reading.

Have a lovely weekend!
