Week Ending 2/12/22

Date: 30th Nov 2022 @ 8:39pm

Happy Friday!  This week we finished our story ‘The Three Little Pigs’ by planning some imaginative traps to finally catch the wolf! The children had lots of fantastic ideas and used the sounds they have learnt to write their thoughts down. Thank you to all the parents who were able to make the Stay and Play craft session on Wednesday afternoon, the children really enjoyed the chance to show you their learning. The cards look great too!

Dates for your diary

  • Wednesday 7th December – Nativity at St Helens at 2pm
  • Monday 12th December- Park Hall Farm (lunch and warm clothes!)
  • Wednesday 14th December- Christmas Jumper and Dinner Day (cracker needed)

This week in phonics we have learnt three new digraphs and our very first trigraph; AI, EE, IGH and OA. We have also learnt some harder to read and spell words: WAS and HER.  We will be setting new decodable books on Oxford Owl which closely match sounds they have learnt this week and there are books in their bags which match the sounds they are confident with. Read the books each night (aim for four times before changing the book) to support the children’s fluency and comprehension (can they retell the story in their own words?)

In Kinetic Letters, we have continued to learn the ‘abracadabra family’. (c, a, o, d, q, g, s) which follow the ‘pull around and push along the ground’ action.  We always start our letters from one of two places; brave monkey branch (top of the line) or the ‘scared monkey branch’ (middle of the lines). No letter starts from the ground. Please encourage your child to hold their pen/pencil using their ‘three friends hold’ when forming their letters.  These are very tricky letters which can be made easier by simply remembering to start with the ‘c’ letter shape. The video below should give you some ideas for home and we have sent a ‘c’ sheet to practice at home. If you can confidently write ‘c’ then you will crack the abracadabra family!

In Maths, we have visited the Pattern Palace with the Numberblocks. We have been learning to continue, create and fix ABAB patterns this week. We had lots of fun making tile patterns and trying to fix the patterns made by the teachers. If your child spots a pattern or creates one at home then please take a photo and upload to Tapestry!

EYFS Careers Week

Although it seems like a long way away, we are looking for parent volunteers after Christmas! During the week beginning 9th January, we will be hosting a careers week where we explore lots of different types of jobs. We want to inspire the children to dream big! If you would like to come in and share some information about your job/ read a story/ simply answer questions then please let us know and we will book you in.

On Monday, we enjoyed finishing the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’, we also watched the original Disney version! This really made the children laugh. We created our traps and wrote our plans.

On Tuesday, we continued with our writing and made our pattern tile pictures. They took a lot of patience and concentration but looked great in the end.

On Wednesday, we enjoyed our first Stay and Play. Thank you to all the parents who were able to come!

On Thursday, we enjoyed learning all about Christingle and then made our own. We then performed our Nativity to an audience for the first time! Thank you to Key Stage 1 for coming to watch us and being a fantastic audience. We also opened our class advent calendars for the first time.

On Friday, we enjoyed going to celebration assembly, practising our nativity and doing phonics. In the afternoon, we got a front row seat to watch the PTA Christmas Fair being set up!

Reminder

The EYFS Nativity will be on Wednesday 7th December at 2pm at St Helens church. School provide the costumes but a note will be sent home in the next couple of weeks asking for a base layer for underneath. The children walk down to church for a 2pm start (dressed in costumes) and then we walk back to school to change back into uniform (we need the costumes back for the KS1 performance that evening!) and then they will be dismissed from school at 3:20pm as normal.

Our mystery readers this week were Ethan's Dad and Kian's Dad, thank you for coming to share a story with us! Please speak to your child’s class teacher to put a date in the diary if you would like to be mystery reader.

Congratulations to our Stars of the Week, Isla and Logan.

Have a wonderful weekend!
