Week Ending 21/03/25
Date: 17th Mar 2025 @ 7:39pm
Happy Friday! This week we have been learning about serving others through the Bible and through Comic Relief today. Jack the Dog introduced us to how Jesus took on the role of a servant and washed the feet of His disciples to demonstrate His love for them and to demonstrate how they (and we) are to show love to others. Together we thought of different ways we can be kind and serve others and follow his example. Our Dormice are by far some of the kindest people I know whether that be helping me tidy up, holding the door open for adults, doing things without being asked, it is always a blessing to be in their company. We have started a tradition in our registration sessions by which myself or Mrs Line says 'Good morning/afternoon...' and they will respond with 'good morning my love heart' or 'good morning my queen'. It always sets us up for a great day!

Please see the downloadable attachment below to practise the sounds/words we have been learning this week.
In Maths, we have been investigating all of the ways to make number bonds to 10. We introduced the children to a bead string to help us systematically find each pair as we moved one bead over the number got one bigger and the beads on the other side got one less. Fingers are a great resource for this by simply counting how many fingers are up versus how many fingers are down. These make up our two parts! This is where subitising on your fingers comes in. Knowing that I have two fingers down, use the 'five and bit' structure to see that I have five fingers on one hand and three more on the other, that means I have 8 left. 10 is the same as 2 + 8. This is something that will be touched upon more in Year 1 but it's certainly a good starting point for our young mathematicians.
Here are a few online mental maths games that you might one to have a go at with your child https://www.topmarks.co.uk/Search.aspx?q=number+bonds+to+10
On Monday, we found a message in a bottle had been 'washed up' on the shores of Tarporley. It was from the Pirates who told us they were sailing nearby. We wrote messages on scrolls to send back to them. Some children wanted them to come ashore and play with them so sent some lovely replies back, others weren't so keen!
On Tuesday, we read the first few pages of ‘The Pirates Are Coming’ and enjoyed thinking about where the villagers should hide from the pirates. we learnt lots of new vocabulary related to pirates such as crow’s nest, Jolly Roger, cannons, mast and portcullis.
On Wednesday, we drew and labelled a pirate ship together. The children then wrote their own descriptions of pirate ships using all their new vocabulary.
On Thursday, we watched a clip from Peter Pan and talked about pirates. What do they look like? We made posters to try and catch the pirates!
On Friday, we dressed up as either the 80s, 90s, 00s, 2010s or in red to support Red Nose Day! I must say the children may have not been born in most of those decades but they sure channelled each one. Well done everyone! In the afternoon we thought about the word 'charity' and what it meant to us. The children were so grown up in their responses and we thought how we could link it back to Jesus washing the disciples' feet.
Well done to our Stars of the Week, Eva!
Our mystery reader this week was Monty's Mum. Thank you for coming to share a story with us!
Have a fantastic weekend!
