Week Ending 14/02/25

Date: 31st Jan 2025 @ 1:38pm

Happy Friday! We made it. We’re halfway through the year already and just look at how far our Dazzling Dormice have come. On Wednesday, it marked our 100th Day in Reception. A hundred days of laughter and learning have come and gone, and it’s time to reflect on everything that the children have to show for it! Take a moment to celebrate these last six months, what can your child do now that they couldn’t perhaps do before? It’s amazing when you think about the progress they have made so far. We can’t wait to see what the next 100 days has in store. Watch this space!

Little Wandle (Phonics)

This week we have been revising some Phase 3 sounds based on the assessment results. The children have worked so hard this half term and we have enjoyed watching them blossom into more fluent readers. Please continue to read with your child as much as possible over the half term and record it in their reading record. This way we know which books you have read and which ones that need to be exchanged.

Kinetic Letters

Now the children are more confident in their letter formation, we will be starting to practise more words and sentences in these sessions. Please do use the laminated whiteboards that were placed in your child’s book bag at Christmas if you would like to continue this at home.

In Maths, we have been focussing on recalling 2D shapes and identifying the names of 3D shapes which are fat versions of the shapes we already know. The common 3D shapes we have been looking at are sphere, cylinder, cone, pyramid, cube, cuboid and triangular prism. A great activity that reinforces shape names is a 3D shape hunt around the house or even on your daily walk to school. We have focused on using the term 'face' and just like us 3D shapes have faces with 2D shapes (the shapes that can be found in 'Flatland'. It has been tricky to distinguish between the 2D shapes we know and now the 3D shapes we have learnt so we will be incorporating this into daily activities to reinforce this concept.

On Monday, we finished our story of 'Lets All Creep Through Crocodile Creek' and decided to create a story map to help us retell the story.

On Tuesday, we learnt about the life cycle of a crocodile and described the difference between wetlands and a contrasting environment like Tarporley.

On Wednesday, we used everything we have learnt this half term to apply our sounds to our writing by writing a poster to inform people about how crocodiles are becoming endangered. We will be holding our cake sale the first week back but will let you know in advance.

On Thursday, we practised the songs of our Three Pigs Show and looked through the script and decided what we wanted to be which we are looking forward to showing you next half term.

On Friday, we decided to spread the love with it being Valentine's Day. The children were full of love for their school family and were tasked with a special mission to say I love you to whoever was picking them up as they exited school for half term. I wonder how many of them said it to you? We learnt about ways we can show our love and wrote cards to one another. This week our Drawing Club book was 'Under the Love Umbrella' which is a truly beautiful book about unconditional love. I have linked it below as a cbeebies bedtime story. Check out Tapestry to see who was under your child's umbrella!

Congratulations to our Star of the Half Term, Rose R!

Our mystery reader this week was Cole’s Mum! Thank you for coming to read to us!

On behalf of myself and Mrs Line we wish you a relaxing and restful half term break. Thank you for your ongoing support in your child’s school journey since September. We look forward to seeing you again on Monday 24th February at 8:40am.
