Week Ending 12/07/24

Date: 30th Jun 2024 @ 12:01pm

Happy Friday! We don’t have many days left so have been enjoying lots of special end of year moments such as transition activities, looking after our duckling eggs and rehearsals for the End of Year show. We are so proud of how well the children have been coming in the main gates in the morning this week! Although it is the penultimate blog, please do have a read of how to download your child's learning journal from Monday.

Dates for the diary this half term:

Tuesday 16th July - Meet the Teacher (Your child will spend the afternoon in their new class getting to know their new teacher and play in the classroom)

Tuesday 16th July 3:30 - 4pm - Meet the Teacher meeting with the Year 1 teachers. This will take place in Squirrels classroom for a presentation about life in Year 1 then there will be an opportunity to pop into Rabbits classroom to see where your child will be next year.

Wednesday 17th July – End of Year Show at the Baptist Methodist Church starting at 9:15am. If you are available to help either class walk down then let the class teacher know please. We will need walkers from 8:55am ish!

Thursday 18th July – PTA BBQ (Come and join us on the playground after school for our annual BBQ to celebrate your child's wonderful first year of school!)

Friday 19th July – Last day of Reception. School closes at 1:30pm.

Housekeeping

Next week we will be slowly getting ready for the summer holidays. We will be sending home lots of little bits for the children to keep for example, their writing portfolios from the year. These will be lovely memories to keep and share together as they grow. Please can you place a labelled plastic bag to your child’s book bag to help your child bring home their things, thank you.

It is also the time for us to close your child’s Tapestry account as this is something we only use in EYFS in our school. In order to keep a copy of the photos, videos and observations then you need to download them onto your computer or a memory stick. As always, please do not share pictures and videos on social media if other children are included, thank you.  Here are the guides to help:

Downloading Journal to PDF - Tapestry tutorials - The Foundation Stage Forum Ltd (eyfs.info)

Exporting media from observations - Tapestry tutorials - The Foundation Stage Forum Ltd (eyfs.info)

You will be able to do this from Wednesday 17th July until Saturday 31st August. If you would like us to do it for you, then please drop off a labelled USB stick. Your child’s account will be archived after Saturday 31st August and you will no longer have access to it.

Little Wandle (Phonics)

This week we have had been revising everything we have learnt this half term while completing the assessments. Please look out in your child's reading record for the results and next steps. We have passed all this information up to year 1 so their reading journey will continue smoothly. This is the last week that we will be sending reading books home, PLEASE ENSURE ALL BOOKS ARE RETURNED BY WEDNESDAY 17th JULY, or you will be charged.

On Monday, we shared our the title of our last Pathways book, The Worrysaurus and talked about the word 'worry' and thought about a time we might have felt worried. We then drew a picture of what we thought the Worrysaurus looked like!

On Tuesday, Worrysaurus likes to plot, sketch and plan his day ahead (a bit like Miss S) as he sets off on a trail to have a picnic. Before long, he day doesn't quite go according to plan and he starts to worry about the things that might go wrong. The children came up with a list of reasons and how we could help fix them to make him feel less worried.

On Wednesday,  we walked down to the Baptist church with our Year 6 buddies to perform our End of Year show for them. It was our first time on the stage in the church so there was a lot to practice. We then had a quiet afternoon in the classroom. In the afternoon we enjoyed an interactive performance by the team from NED. NED stands for Never give up, Encourage others, and Do your best!! They use storytelling, humour, illusions, audience participation and yoyo tricks to simplify big ideas about behavior and character, presenting them in a way children understand and remember.

On Thursday, we returned the favour by heading down to the community centre to watch our Year 6 buddies in their play. We thought they were brilliant and budding actors in the making.

On Friday, the weather was a bit too cold to participate in Mud Day celebrations, so instead we kept warm inside and had our final story from Jack the Dog as we learnt about how God sent his Holy Spirit and the story of Pentecost. Fingers crossed for better weather next week!

Congratulations to our Stars of the Week, Olivia and Xander!

Our Mystery Reader this week was Xander's Mum! Thank you for sharing your story with us!

Thank you to all our mystery readers from the year. The children have absolutely loved listening to the range of stories on offer  each week and you have been a part of inspiring their lifelong love of reading.

Have a lovely weekend!
