Happy Friday! We hope you had a wonderful and relaxing bank holiday weekend and are looking forward to the next. This week we have been continuing with our geography and history unit on King Charles III. We have been flying the flag in preparations for the coronation tomorrow. In your child's book bags/reading folders you will find a coronation bookmark which has been kindly given to the children by our wonderful PTA. We hope you enjoy using them.

A 3D Tour of Tarporley CE

Recently, one of our parents kindly offered to film a virtual tour of the school. Please click on the link to go on the tour. The floor plan lets you go outside on to the playground too. This will give you an overview of some parts of the school you might not have seen.

It will give you an opportunity to see into the KS1 one classrooms where you child might be next year too.

Talking Point – Time Capsule

As this weekend we look forward to a moment in history with the children’s first experience of a coronation, we will be creating a time capsule to mark the occasion. Next week we will be filming a video and asking the question ‘what did you do to celebrate the King’s coronation?’ It would be lovely if you could talk about this with your child so they have some ideas when we come to film next week. Thank you.

Little Wandle (Phonics)

This term we move onto Phase 4 in our phonics journey! The children do not learn any new phonemes or graphemes. Instead, they are taught to further manipulate the phonemes and graphemes they have already learnt. They will begin to explore more polysyllabic words (words containing more than one syllable) and read and spell words containing adjacent consonants. E.g. string, milk, brush, scoop etc. Phase 4 requires the children to blend an increasing number of sounds together. These words are often referred to in relation to how many vowels and consonants they contain.

E.g. CVC words (consonant / vowel / consonant) such as sad, net, him.

This week we have been focusing on CCVCC/CCCVC/CCCVCC words such as crept, squelch, scrub, and sprint. We have also learnt the tricky words were, here, little and says.

As always, please see the downloadable attachment below to practise the phase 4 words and tricky words we have been learning this week.

Reminder: Please can you continue to record each time you read with your child so we can see when their reading for pleasure book needs changing. Thank you.

In Maths,we have been continuing to consolidate our understanding of number bonds to 10. This week we have been learning about the related subtraction facts meaning that if I only had the 'whole' and only knew one part, what would the other part be to make 10? We've used our fingers to 'take away' to find the missing part. Remember we always take away from our 'whole' which is 10. A good game to play is to have a bag or a cup and hide 10 of something inside. Pull out a number of them and ask your child to tell you how many is inside. For example, there are 10 pasta shells inside my bag but I have pulled out six. How many are left? We can show this in a part-whole model or number sentence. 10 - 6 = 4.

On Tuesday, we enjoyed another special collective worship with Jack the Dog. He told us about Jesus going back to heaven and promising to send the Holy Spirit to help people in his place.

On Wednesday, we participated in Hymn Practice as the children will be doing this weekly in KS1 next year. We have learnt some lovely songs which I have linked below if you would like to enjoy these at home.

On Thursday, we practised some of the races the children will be taking part on Sports Day (May 24th). We introduced the sack race and the children had lots of fun jumping over the finish line like bunnies.

On Friday, we held our Coronation Party with KS1! We made fruit kebabs using the theme of red, white and blue and Callum and his mummy made us some biscuits to eat. We dressed up as kings and queens and wore our beautifully made crowns to the party to celebrate King Charles’ big day.

Congratulations to our Stars of the Week, Kyran and Ophelia!

Please be aware that celebration assembly is now 9:30am! Unfortunately due to the extra Bank Holiday, there will no Stars of the Week next Friday as the Year 6 SATs will be taking place.

Our mystery readers this week were Isaac’s Dad and Ava's Mum. Thank you for coming to share your story with us!

Please speak to your child’s class teacher to put a date in the diary if you would like to be mystery reader. We still have many available dates this term, please get in touch if you can help!

Have a lovely, long weekend! We look forward to seeing you again on Tuesday.
