Super Squirrels 14th Jan 2023

Date: 14th Jan 2023 @ 9:08pm

Windswept and soggy but the Squirrels' staff let no winter challenges combat our love of growing our Squirrels' brains and hearts! How was your week?

We are already enthralled with our new class text, The Dragon Machine and can't wait to see the next page and text. So far George is feeling unloved, ignored and unnoticed- just like the little dragons in his imaginative world. Unlike poor Edward who is looking after his uncle's dragon for a week in our other class read, The Dragon Sitter. Edward communicates with his uncle via emails to complain and ask for his uncle to return quickly! But our sympathies are with Mum whose patience is as thin as the lampshade material that the dragon has just scorched! We will be using these texts to write emails and diaries using I (rather than he/she/it/they) as well as looking at the past progressive which is a past tense to describe an ongoing action in the past ('I WAS WATCHING him as he started to blow fire'). And if there are any words which start with 'un', point them out and see if it is the prefix (which generally means not- tie/untie) or if it part of the root word (eg unicorn/unit).

Our imaginations are going to be playing a big part in our learning this term. On Friday we popped into a time machine and sauntered back to 1666 to begin to discover the facts about the Great Fire of London. Such fun!

Books are everywhere this term - as it should be!!  We will be lauching our class reward which will have home reading at its core. More details to follow next week.

The biggest book of them all - the Bible- is going to be looked at in its usual daily detail but is the predominant focus of our RE lessons as we learn more of its parables and consider its importance in the Christian world. Please share the Bible's importance to you personally with your child so they feel confident to add to our discussions.

A big thank you to Mrs Line who has settled into her new Squirrels' TA role beautifully. She is already indispensable! We love that we also have not lost Mrs Wood who is mainly with the Rabbits now and we also see Mrs Dillon and Mrs Smith around school.

This week's extra, non-compulsory homework: get your wallet/purse out and let your Squirrel investigate, match, order your cash and with your support, count it (this is so much harder than it sounds!). Over to you, moneybags!
