Bonjour! Ca va?

Ca va bien/comme si, comme ca, merci.

Oh la la, how confident are we all now at coming in with this at 8.40! Some even remember to ask me. In register, we have started to say: Je voudrais ... (roast dinner/pasta...) s'il-vous plait. It's taken 2 terms to get them confident enough to embrace saying hello in a different language (we do German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese) but this element of French is testament to their increasing willingness and growth mindset to stretch themselves in a safe environment. They particularly love when I pronounce their names with an accent or in some cases change them (Heinrich, Jorge, )! We did German (Guten Morgen/Guten Tag) today with French for the lunch menu. What should we do next week?

Talking of the register, we do other things as well. Sometimes whisper, sometimes Toy Story (ask them), sometimes backwards (Harrison Mrs Morning Good), sometimes singing and sometimes a question. Yesterday the question was: What did you have for tea last night? I was a little taken aback that 20 couldn't remember! I stopped myself from putting my head in my hands and wondering what on earth the day was going to turn out like given we had English, phonics, maths, RE...But they warmed up and did some great work.

This week we have done our 'writeaway'. This is our independent piece of writing based on our Pathways book of the half term. We have loved The Last Wolf. And I have loved the finished products. They had to edit their work (using my marking) and then publish it in neat. Miss Selwyn is coming in tomorrow to have a look at it and today as we hung it on our Let Your Writing Shine board, I showed them their first piece of writing as a Rigorous Rabbit and compared it with today's. WOW! I will look forward to sending it home in July for you to treasure.

Get ready for all things Joe, Beth and Frannie as we have started The Enchanted Wood. Again, this is a different kind of learning time (and not just because Moonface has- for some reason- a Scottish accent that lapses into a Welsh lilt and some West Country vibes) because there are basically no pictures. They have to focus and use their imagination. There is a lot of comprehension and prediction we do, not forgetting the historical nature of a text set in the 1950s! Feel free to give in to any demands requests to buy the book and bring into school (named!) so that they can read along with me. It will move their reading on massively. Just don't let them move on ahead of us! We will only get enough time to do the first book so you could enjoy The Folk of the Faraway Tree and The Magic Faraway Tree over the summer. Keep them reading! Our trip to BeWILDerwood will be based somewhat on looking for Silky, Saucepan Man and the tree itself. What fun!

Look forward to seeing you at sports day on Wednesday. #PleaseNoTwistedAdultAnkles
