Squirrels 20th May

Date: 20th May 2023 @ 11:37am

What a glorious start to the weekend weather-wise! Time to change the squirrel on the class page I think to represent the sunnier Squirrels.

So that week is over. I think all the children enjoyed its demands as much as the adults. A few changes to the timetable routine - we can deal with that. A different kind of working environment (very quiet) - we can deal with that. The excitement of the special job booklets- we can deal with that. Y1 and Y2 having some time apart with lots of adult attention - we can deal with that. So all is good at school. We have enjoyed spending a bit more time outside in an afternoon; although spotting a nettle was not on my original lesson plan! But we are thinking like scientists and considering all sorts of plants and how they grow best. On Friday it was the turn of the lowly cress seed. We watched a great time lapse video which prompted lots of scientific discussion and vocabularly about why some seeds didn't germinate and why some stems seemed to drop. Let's hope ours do well over the next seven days.

I am attaching a great new maths game you might like to play. We are good at tally charts because we use it for house points but this is a great arithmetic activity which only needs a dice and something to create tallies (pen and paper would do, or using any colouring pencils or pens they have). Obviously it is not as good as my fave Shut The Box or Doubles Wipe Out but they could give it a go. In Y2 next week we are doing statistics (basically looking at and being able to read all sorts of graphs and charts) so turning the tally into a graph would be a fab exercise worthy of some housepoints!

Sports day this Wednesday. All the children have 2 races and some have more because of the numbers in their house (it evens out across the school). We hope you can come and enjoy the spectacle, the forecast is fine and they are a wonderful bunch of athletes. And be prepared yourself in case we are able to do a parents' race... :)
