Squirrels 16.6.23

Friday 16th June

Well that was the hot week that was! Your children are fantastic and although we had hot times, we did not have hot tempers. I am so proud of the way they behave, help each and learn- even in the heat of a long summer 2 term.

We have enjoyed our English this week. I would never have believed that 1 book over 5 weeks would sustain a whole class but it does and the excitement coming out as gasps as a new page is revealed is a highlight! At the moment we are reading 'Grandad's Secret Giant' - the plot is in the title really but basically the theme is not running away when things get tough or when someone seems 'different'. Choose kindness. Always a fallback, right?

Our kindness this week has come in many different forms: from helping a new class member find stuff and friends, to considering that your 'normal' is probably different to someone else's 'normal' and that's what we consider diversity to be. Kindness also came from our art lesson today. It was genuinely a privilege to see every child look at all the other sketches, drawings and shading and not feel the need to criticise (think it, don't say it) but to accept diversity. It really showed a maturity that they could see that no one's was bad, just different. Remember they are 6 and 7. They blow me away!

Maths has been time and / or fractions. Can it BE more difficult? (#ThanksChandler) Practice makes permanent and we are certainly practising. Feel free to check in the o'clock (Y1), half past, quarter past/to (y2) as often as possible!

What else? We have used Google Earth to locate our school, label a map of our corridor and give directions of how to find something on a map as well as singing our continents' song loudly whenver we can!  We have used the iPads to 'Beebot' and programme. We have learnt about Georgia O'Keefe (see Twitter video). We have read numerous books- to people, with friends and listened to Mrs H's story-telling. We made our Father's Day cards. We 'worshipped' every day and played, played, played.

Squirrels- you rock. Here's to the weekend!
