Week Ending 17/09/21
Date: 16th Sep 2021 @ 8:46pm
We made it! Happy first full week of school! The children have worked so hard this week and deserve a big rest over the weekend. They have settled into our routine brilliantly and we are really proud of their enthusiasm and positive attitudes. The children have had lots of new routines to learn and have really impressed us with their independence in school. To continue to develop this, please encourage them to put their own coat on, cut up their own food and manage their own personal hygiene. The children have learnt to tidy away their own tray at lunchtime this week so you could even start to get them to wash up!
A date for your diary! The KS1 Harvest Service will be Thursday 30th September at 9:30am. We will need 4 adults to help us walk down to church for that time (along with our Year 6 buddies who hold our hands) so please let the office know if you are able to help, thank you.
Miss Selwyn and I will be writing a Reception blog every Friday over the school year and it will give you an overview of the week as well as some ideas for continuing learning at home. Thank you to all the parents who attended the ‘Meet the Teacher’ meeting last Friday. It is on each class page if you want to refer to anything again.
This week we have begun our phonics journey by revising Phase 1 of Letters and Sounds. This phase focuses on alliteration, rhyming, listening skills and oral blending and segmenting. The children have loved their first phonics lessons and worked really hard. If you would like to continue their learning at home, then focus practising blending words using ‘robot arms’ and ‘blending hands’. There is an example below to show you what this means and some ideas for games to play at home. This skill is really important for reading which we will be starting next week in phonics.
On Monday we learnt about being thankful in our RE session with Jack the dog. We also enjoyed our first music session and learnt Pat-A-Cake and how to find the beat and copy rhythms.
On Tuesday we read the story of The Little Red Hen. We added actions to the story and retold it using puppets in our choosing time. We also had our first My Happy Mind session where we talked about how our brains help us. We have attached the parent pack below.
On Wednesday we drew story maps for the Little Red Hen to help us retell the story. Our Big Question of the day was ‘what is friendship?’ and we really enjoyed discussing the children’s answers. Our favourite response was “when you are kind to someone and they are kind to you”, gorgeous!
On Thursday we enjoyed taking part in Wake Up, Shake Up in the morning. In the afternoon we completed some blending activities using the animals from The Little Red Hen and started some hand print hen pictures. We also talked more about the process of making bread and started to learn our Harvest service song.
On Friday we watched our first celebration assembly. Well done to our first stars of the week. We made our own bread today! We kneaded, proved and turning our bread rolls into hedgehogs and dormice. Delicious! In the afternoon we did football skills on the MUGA with Mrs Line and learnt French greetings with Miss Selwyn.
Our mystery reader this week was … thank you for coming to share a story with us! Please speak to your child’s class teacher to put a date in the diary if you would like to be mystery reader.
Congratulations to our Stars of the Week, Marnie and Lewis.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Miss Nicholas and Miss Selwyn
