Week Ending 11/02/22

Date: 8th Feb 2022 @ 1:11pm

Happy Friday! What a busy week we have had! It was Children’s Mental Health Week, internet safety day and we started our new book based learning with The Three Billy Goats Gruff! We received our Adoption Packs from Chester Zoo this week. We loved sharing them with the children. The plaques are updated on the 20th each month so our names should be outside the caiman enclosure by March 20th. Please do let us know if you visit them!

Home Learning

Unfortunately, we have had a few children isolating this week after testing positive for COVID. If your child is well enough to continue learning at home, please find Day 1 of home learning here (it is the same on both class pages on the school website): http://www.tarporleyce.cheshire.sch.uk/page/day-1-of-home-learning/99395

From this point, learning that matches what we are doing that week in the classroom will be sent home. You will receive an email explaining what you need to do and a pack will be dropped off or sent home with a sibling. We can also email resources to you. If you need support with home learning then please email the school office and a member of the EYFS team will be in touch. Please upload home learning to Tapestry, thank you.

World Book Day

On Thursday 3rd March we will be celebrating World Book Day. Children (and staff-we are very excited!) are encouraged to come in dressed as their favourite book character. We will be having a visit from an author from within our school family who will be sharing their book ‘The Pescatarian Bear’. The children will be able to ask lots of questions about being an author and hopefully become inspired to write themselves. There is also a competition to win a copy of the book! Your child needs to draw a picture of a bear using the entry form that you will find in their book bag today. Please return your child’s entry by Monday 28th February ready for judging on World Book Day. Good luck everyone!

This week in phonics we have been revising the sounds and harder to read and spell words we have learnt this half term. These will be in your online reading books for this week as we focus on the application of the new learning. Please keep re-reading as much as possible, we noticed in the assessments this week that the children were not confident at spotting digraphs in whole words. We will provide individual feedback on your child’s progress during parents evening next week.

In Maths, we have been focusing on combining two groups to find the total. We have played lots of games where we have had to count objects altogether. A great way to continue your child’s learning at home is to use two die instead of one dice when playing board games. There are some wonderful alternatives to snakes and ladders such as Sum Swamp, Magic Maths, Bus Stop… anything from Orchard Toys really! I have also included a sheet of challenges that you may choose to use. If your child completes any of the challenges at home then please upload your observation to Tapestry. We love showing you what your child can do at school but we also like to see your child using their learning at home. Think about moments that make you say ‘WOW!’

On Monday, we thought about being safe on the internet as we celebrated Internet Safety Day. We shared the story of PenguinPig (linked below) and talked about how to keep themselves safe online. Please ensure that you keep talking to your child about staying safe while they are using technology, especially if they can access YouTube on a device.

On Tuesday, we enjoyed an afternoon exploring lots of different fruits. We used our senses to think about how each fruit looked, felt and smelt and then created out our riddles. We have sent the riddles to a Young Writers competition as we think we have a class of potential poets!

On Wednesday, we started reading our class fairy tale for this half term ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’. The children were given lots of clues and had to make predictions about the story.

On Thursday, we enjoyed another exciting PE session in the school hall. The children worked hard on their balance and confidence skills by moving around the apparatus. We also did some French with Miss Selwyn and learnt some more numbers.

On Friday, we celebrated Children’s Mental Health Week by ‘dressing to express’. We also talked about people in our lives who can help us when we are feeling unhappy. We discuss mental health weekly in our My Happy Mind sessions, in the same way that we think about our physical health in PE lessons. This half term we have completed the ‘celebrate’ module and discovered our character strengths. I have attached a parent pack with more information.

Congratulations to our Stars of the Week, Katie and Saphira-Lou!

Mystery Reader is unfortunately postponed until the COVID cases in school subside, fingers crossed for after half term!

Have a fantastic weekend!

Miss Nicholas and Miss Selwyn
