Welcome to the Otters class page!

Welcome to Year 2. We hope you have all had a wonderful holiday and are looking forward to our first term in Year 2.

Our topic for the Autumn term is 'Fire and Ice'

Our PE days are Monday and Friday.

. Our topic is the Great Fire of London and we will be taking part in some exciting historical investigations.

We will also be learning:

Maths- place value, number recognition, addition and subtraction, money, reasoning and problem solving,

Science- everyday materials

RE- Harvest, stories from the Bible. belonging and Christmas

PE- invasion games, gymnastics

ICT- online safety, effective searching, creating pictures and making music

Creative- design and make a Tudor building, collage and silhouette pictures, baking bread, making old paper, Christmas crafts, Nativity

History and Geography- Great Fire of London, Samuel Peyps diary, fire safety then and now, Guy Fawkes, and Bonfire Night, WW1 celebrations

Trips- Pantomime (17th December), Hope Journey at Kelsall church (12th December)  

 

Homework

This week the children been set MyMaths homework online. We have been learning how to add and subtract using the tens and ones method. Please see the 'How Can I Help my Child?' tab if you would like to see how we have introduced this strategy. No column addition or subtraction please!

Please can we encourage everyone to read at home as much as possible and record each time in the children's reading record. It is essential that the children read as much as possible to develop their fluency, thank you. The children receive a red sticker if they have read everyday (with it written in the reading records) in between each guided read.

Reading

We love to read! Our favourite time of the day is storytime. During this time we share lots of different stories; beautiful picture books, more challenging chapter books, classic stories and some of our teacher's favourites from when they were children!
