Week Ending 10/12/21

Date: 6th Dec 2021 @ 12:46pm

Happy Friday! Wow, what a busy, busy week in Reception we feel as though we haven't stopped. Even though each EYFS member may have lost their voice we want to thank the children for all their hard work, dedication and enthusiasm towards learning all about the very First Christmas. The children definitely deserve a big rest this weekend in preparation for the final week this term. Thank you for coming to see our EYFS Nativity.

This half term in phonics we are focusing on letter formation. At Tarporley, we use Kinetic Letters as our handwriting scheme. This week we have learnt the letters K and F. The letter 'K' is from the 'Slider Family' and the letter 'F' is from the 'Fisher Family'  which has been confusing. This is because we have not taught the other sounds that feature in both families. After Christmas we will be starting phase 3 where we will be learning the remaining letters in these two families. To support your child at home, please encourage them to start their letters from the right place, hold their pencil correctly and provide lines for them to write on.

In Maths, we have been learning about 2D shapes and their properties (how many corners, sides it has). The Numberblocks video 'Flatland' is a great visual for learning the names and the difference between a square and a rectangle which is very important. We have been linking the numbers to the shape. For example, number one can make a circle because it has one curved edge and number three can make a triangle because it has three straight sides and three corners. We have also been using lolly pop sticks to make different 2D shapes. Instead of asking 'what's this shape?' we have been asking the children to make a 'triangle' and for the children to recognise that we need three sides and three corners and so on for the other 2D shapes. We have also been drawing our common shapes. A fun game which you could easily play at home might be I Spy. You may come up with many household objects that are rectangles etc. See how many square objects you can find in your own home.

On Monday, it was St Nikolaus Day! This German tradition is celebrated on 6th December each year where St Nikolaus leaves secret gifts in the boots of children such as coins, chocolate, sweets, satsumas etc. Mrs Wilson was extremely helpful and told us about the history of this day. We then found that he had been to school and found gifts in our wellies! We also decorated the classroom to make it look as Christmassy and festive as possible!

On Tuesday, we made 1, 2, 3 Christmas biscuits which were absolutely scrumptious. The children carefully followed the instructions where we needed 1 cup of butter, 2 cups of sugar and 3 cups of flour to make 12 biscuits. They went down a treat with our Reception children.

On Wednesday, we had our final rehearsal of the Nativity before the big day! This was the first time the children wore their clothes and performed in the Church to our buddies and the Done Room nursery.

On Thursday, the big day arrived as we performed our Nativity to our loved ones at Church. The children have been working so hard and it was amazing to see how confident they have grown over the last term. We hope you enjoyed it just as much as we loved putting it together. A big thank you to all the EYFS members of staff for their hard work too!

On Friday, it was Christmas Jumper Day in school. We had our missed Wake up Shake up session in the hall with Mrs Line and Ms Bougen. In the afternoon we had our Nativity photoshoot. The photos will be uploaded onto Tapestry soon.

Monday 13th December

It is our class trip to Park Hall Farm! Please ensure you arrive on time at 8:40am. We will be departing from school as soon as possible and don’t want to leave anyone behind! You may way your own trousers but school jumpers so we are easily identifiable and wear comfortable shoes as we will be on a farm with potential mud!

Tuesday 14th December

The whole school will be having nasal flu jabs.

Thursday 15th December

It’s Christmas Dinner Day. Your child has already pre-ordered their lunch choice and we will remind them of what they have ordered beforehand. Please remember to bring in a Christmas cracker to pull at lunch time. You may also wear a Christmas jumper. I know we will!

Friday 17th December

Our EYFS Christmas party will also take place on this day where you can dress up in your Christmas party clothes!

Congratulations to our Stars of the Week, Grace and Raffy.

Our mystery reader this week was Sofia's mummy. Thank you for coming to share a story with us! Please speak to your child’s class teacher to put a date in the diary if you would like to be mystery reader. We have free spaces on the first Friday back in school (Friday 6th January) so please do let us know as will be splitting the two classes.

Have a fantastic weekend!
